Vintage Carved Moroccan Pillar

The traditional Moroccan architecture is known for its construction method based on building a distinctive vernacular structure from walls and pillars of houses, Riads and palaces.  The technique of rammed earth – also known as pisé – consists in using wooden pillars as a support element above doors, windows, ceilings and roofs. When it comes to decoration, the raw wooden pillars are being carved by craftsmen. This intricate woodwork can be found on various surfaces of buildings especially parts of interiors, such as wall, ceiling window, gallery and balcony. The wood itself does not necessarily need to be finished or painted after the long process of delicate carving.
