Ledge Console

Ledge is a floating wall mounted console. It stems from material exploration is inspired by the cliffs around Johns’ studio, made of solid ash crumbling stone through a unique technique. The wood components are scored across the grain, then carved by breaking the woods grain in order to create patterns of variable depths. According to Johns’ sketch of the rock formations outside, the front part of the piece wraps around the sides of the console which allows its center to open up with the help of its two doors and reveal itself as a functional cabinet. The opaque black glass top nods to the mirror effects of water and contrasts with the minerality of the rest.
