MAE Chair is a design by the young German based Studio PALAIUS and the Swiss based creative studio QWSTION. The long-lasting steel frame of the chair was handcrafted in traditional European workshops, whereas the seating part features Bananatex®, the world’s first durable, water-proof fabric made purely from Banana plants.The natural beeswax coating gives the material a smooth, water-resistant finish, which allows placing the piece both indoor and outdoor.
Bananatex® was developed by Swiss creative studio QWSTION that thrive on finding original and sustainable solutions, on creating those essentials that will be useful every day. Each project and designer chosen for Bazar Noir editions share our design language and operates responsibly towards nature and community. With the MAE chair we aim to prove that good design is compatible with sustainability.
PALAIUS is a young german studio. Competencies in the fields of design, business and production create a dynamic symbiosis. Despite different perspectives and different approaches, the same goal is pursued: objects, furniture and luminaires are to be improved through modularity, sustainability and longevity. The use of innovative materials and the connection between inside and outside complement the idea. PALAIUS is characterized by the conscious handling of cultural and historical influences and a straightforward design from a contemporary perspective.
