These Nyaga masks are differentiated from Molo and escort masks due to their abstract, stately features. Rather than portraying a living creature, Nyaga masks display the distinct appearance of either horned creatures or bird heads to represent the spirit of their ancestor Dwo - son of Wuro, the primary god of the Bobo culture. The spirit of Dwo is revealed during a masking ceremony and is able to transmit to people through the will of Dwo. A one of a kind mask handcrafted in Burkina Faso.
