The Norma XL Sculpture is the result of extensive research into the unique properties of Yellow Pine. It is composed of ellipses, meticulously sawn against the grain to showcase the distinctive wood grain of Yellow Pine. The texture is defined by the interplay between the flaming patterns of plain-sawn wood and the striped effect of quarter-sawn wood. The age-old technique of 'Shou Sugi Ban' is then applied, charring the wood through controlled burning. Yellow Pine, with its striking contrast between soft spring wood and harder summer wood, responds uniquely to this process. The result is a deeply textured surface with subtle hues of brown, black, and even gold. This piece invites exploration from every angle, as each side offers a different composition and evokes a distinct emotional response. It is a work meant to be both seen and experienced.
